Hiring Team Members

The teachers at West Street Toy Box are hired based on their qualifications, work experience, personalities and how references check out.

As of January 2008 all Lead Teachers will be required to have a CDA or higher and 1 year experience. As of right now, the state regulation for a Lead Teacher is the minimum of 6 months experience and a high school diploma, or its equivalent.

We are raising the bar for our Lead Teachers, so that we can hire people who want more than a "job" and are committed to the growth and development of children. We are very selective as to the people we hire for all positions at the center.

Each person working in the classroom has had First Aid class and a Signs & Symptoms class about illness and abuse. They also have a background check done when they are hired.

Each Assistant Teacher and Lead Teacher is also required to complete at the minimum of 10 hours of in-service training per year. We do however encourage them to obtain more training. Our philosophy is to keep growing through knowledge, so we can help the children grow.
